CHRISTIANITY IN TEMPLE TOWN
35mm Digital / Smart Phone, Digital Archival Pigment prints
Leo James was born and brought up in Kollam, Kerala. Having cultivated an interest in photography during his teenage, he completed a degree in Mass Communications, which had photography as a subject, and met and worked with photographers around Kerala, including Abul. He is currently working as a commercial photographer in Dubai. Leo’s project is centered on the Christian population of Tiruvannamalai. Although Christians are a minority community, they have had a distinct cultural influence over the town and in the dynamics of communal relationships over the past centuries. Leo has documented different aspects of Christianity, and produced a series titled “Christianity in Temple Town”, which includes portraits of Christian couples, documentations of rituals, symbols and a funeral, and images of Christian diaspora houses. He used both 35mm digital camera and Smart phone to create this body of work.
